How to use dope sheet in blender

I found that the issue (of displaying KFs in dope sheet) went away when I re-opened the .blend file. They now add correctly. Perhaps that is why you cannot reproduce it in the submitted .blend. I was using the VSE at the time with the mask datablock being referred to by a strip mask. However

Now I’m working on a 3rd animation but I cant figure out how to save it, and I’m worried it might disappear on me. I was browsing through my Actions in the Dope Sheet and I noticed that my new Action had a 0 next to it, and that’s how my other 2 poses were, before they got lost. Does the zero next to my poses name mean it isn’t Saved?

Actions do not appear in the Timeline or Dope Sheet. This means that, once you start to use actions, you no longer get a correct overview of your animation in these two windows. The Timeline is still useful for its transport controls, but otherwise you should stick to the NLA Editor for your overview. Have you ever used the dope sheet view? Keyframes for selected items and / or bones are shown on a timeline and you can select and delete them from there. You should be using both the dope sheet and graph editor already when creating animations. If you're not, now is a great time to learn how to use them. And all though it might be active and usable, its properties are not be available other animation related editors, e.g. Dope Sheet, Action Editor, Graph Editor, NLA Editor etc. Have you ever used the dope sheet view?
